Sample Resolution for Labor Federations Urging Passage of Protecting America's Workers Act

Resolution in Support of “Protecting America’s Workers Act” H.R 2067

Whereas, the “Protecting America’s Workers Act” [H.R.2067] would greatly improve safety in American workplaces and strengthen worker rights in health and safety, and

Whereas, “Protecting American Workers Act” would extend OSHA protections to an additional 8.6 million American workers including federal, state, and local public employees, as well as airline, railroad employees and Department of Energy contractors, and,

Whereas, the “Protecting America’s Workers Act” increases and indexes penalties for those who break the law, including setting a minimum penalty of $50,000 for a worker’s death, and allows for felony prosecutions against employers who commit willful violations that result in death or serious bodily injury, and

Whereas, the “Protecting America’s Workers Act protects workers who blow the whistle on unsafe conditions in the workplace, and

Whereas, the Protecting America’s Workers Act provides workers and union representatives the right to context OSHA’s failure to issue citations, classifications of its citations, and proposed penalties; and

Whereas, Gives injured workers, their families and families of workers who died in work-related incidents the right to meet with investigators, receive copies of citations, and to have an opportunity to make a statement before any settlement negotiations.

Therefore be it resolved that the **** Labor Federation urges Congress to pass this Act without weakening amendments to assure that worker health and safety rights are strengthened and calls on members of the *** Congressional Delegation to become a co-sponsors of the "Protect America’s Workers Act."

And be it further resolved that this resolution be transmitted to the members of the *** Congressional Delegation and that a report on the positions of the members of the Congressional Delegation be made to the affiliates of the *** Labor Federation by December 31, 2009.
